RCF Provides Grant to Support Local Healthcare Workers

In support of our community’s health and safety during the COVID-19 virus pandemic, the Board of Directors of the Rhinelander Community Foundation (RCF) has approved a grant in the amount of $4000 to the Helping Hands Program at the Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation.  The Helping Hands initiative supports the needs of Saint Mary’s Hospital and medical clinic workers in times of crisis.

Janet Jamison, RCF Board member shares, “This grant is a message of thanks and appreciation for healthcare workers who are helping others during the pandemic.”

The grant put forth by RCF is designated to be used in the Rhinelander area to support the needs of Saint Mary’s Hospital and clinic health professionals in response to and related to the COVID-19 crisis.  Jamison further says, “The frontline healthcare providers are working hard to keep our community safe despite the risks to themselves and their families.”

One point of conversation has been the need for alternative housing for those working amidst the COVID-19 virus. “This grant can help fund temporary housing arrangements and other expenses for the healthcare workers, allowing them to focus on their jobs and worry less about extra expenses they may incur trying to protect their families,” Janet Jamison continues.

Although the 2020 RCF Dine for a Difference, scheduled for later this month, has been cancelled due to social distancing requirements, RCF board members recognize this is a challenging time for area businesses that may be closed to their usual foot traffic.  Janet Jamison explains, “A portion of the Helping Hands grant will be used to provide meals delivered from local eating establishments for the hospital workers.”

RCF has extended its community “Unsung Difference Maker” nomination period until April 30.  This is an opportunity to recognize Rhinelander area citizens making a difference in our community behind the scenes. Nomination forms can be found here. Nominees will be recognized later this spring.

Janet Jamison concludes, “We are grateful for the dedication of all those in our community working hard to keep us safe and healthy.”
